A Brave State of Mind
While most 18-year-olds spend the summer after high school graduation celebrating and prepping for college, I was undergoing brainstem surgery and the cumbersome journey of recovery.
To be honest, I am about as Type A as they come, personality-wise. Not being able to be in complete control of situations is difficult for me. When I was going through my surgery, it was an experience that was completely out of my control, as my entire body was putting me to the test. Through all the unpredictable hurdles I had to endure, I realized that the one thing I could still control was my own mindset.
We may not always be able to choose what happens to us in life, but we can always choose to be brave.
